Union Cabinet nod for schools of architecture in Bhopal, Vijayawada

NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet on Thursday gave its approval for setting up two schools of planning and architecture at Bhopal and Vijayawada at a total cost of Rs.348.5 crore. The two institutes would be ready by 2012-13.

Announcing this, Union Minister and Cabinet spokesperson Prithviraj Chavan said the institutes would integrate graduate, post-graduate, doctoral and post-doctoral education in architecture and town planning. They would also foster quality research.

Chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the Cabinet also adopted a policy on cruise shipping in the country, with a view to promoting the sector, which is one of the most dynamic and fastest growing components of the leisure industry worldwide. Growing at a rate of 12 per cent a year globally, the sector has been witnessing some activity in recent times. The policy is expected to give a boost to this.
